2 Texas deputies killed in a shootout after a standoff with a suspect

According to reports, two sheriff's deputies in Texas were killed in a shootout in Eben on Monday night.


So far, authorities have provided few details about the shooting. The alleged gunman, Jeffrey Nicholas, 28, led deputies on a short foot pursuit before barricading himself in a building. According to KLST/KSAN, a standoff resulted in gunfire.


Two deputies were killed, and another person who has not been identified was injured. The victims were not immediately identified by authorities. The bodies of the deputies will be transported to Lubbock on Tuesday for autopsies.


According to online records, Nicholas was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on two counts of capital murder of a peace officer or firefighter. He is being held on a bond of $4 million, $2 million for each count.


According to KTXS, a trooper from the Texas Department of Public Safety was traveling from San Angeles to the scene of the shooting Tuesday morning to provide an update.


On Tuesday, the Concho County Sheriff's Office declined to provide additional information to Fox News over the phone, referring media inquiries to the Texas Rangers. The Texas Department of Public Safety did not immediately respond to Fox News' request for additional information.


In tributes posted on social media Tuesday, Texas law enforcement agencies, including Pearland Police and Frisco Police, expressed their condolences.


"Please join us this morning in lifting up our Brothers and Sisters with the Concho County Sheriff's Office in prayer," Frisco Police said in a tweet. "Two of their deputies were killed in a shootout in Eden late Monday night. We will never forget what they gave up."


"We are saddened to learn of the two Concho County Deputies who were shot and killed in the line of duty late Monday night," Pearland Police said in a tweet. "Please keep their families and friends in your prayers, as well as the brave men and women of the Concho County Sheriff's Office."
