Schumer warns Dems will go it alone on Biden's $4T tax and spending proposal Democrats, according to S enate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer , are ready to pass President Biden's nearly $4 trillion tax and spending plans with or without Republican support. Although the White House is still negotiating with a group of Republican lawmakers on their proposed $568 billion infrastructure bill, which is a counteroffer to Biden's $2.25 trillion plan, Democrats have indicated that they are willing to go it alone. The pressure on the bipartisan talks has increased this week, following the release of Biden's second major economic proposal, worth approximately $1.8 trillion. Democrats are now discussing using the budget reconciliation procedure to pass the spending and tax increases with the Senate's smallest possible 50-50 majority. In March, the party used reconciliation to pass Biden's $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan with no Republican votes. "Of course, reconci

Filipinos deserve a leader who will defend the country’s sovereignty —Carpio Retired Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio slammed President Rodrigo Duterte on Thursday after the chief executive appeared to blame him and former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert del Rosario for China's occupation of some West Philippine Sea features. On Wednesday night, Duterte used his weekly address to the nation to question Carpio and del Rosario about why the country "lost territory" in the West Philippine Sea during their tenure, particularly after the 2012 standoff between Philippine and Chinese vessels in the Scarborough Shoal. Carpio stated in a statement that he was not a member of the Executive Department, which determines foreign policy, in 2012. Carpio, a Supreme Court magistrate at the time, had recommended that China be taken to arbitration over its massive claims in the South China Sea, including areas Manila refers to as the West Philippine Sea. “In January 2013, the Aquin

The monarch, no longer dressed in black mourning robes, was seen via video link from Windsor Castle while welcoming dignitaries to Buckingham Palace. She appeared on screen, dressed in a pale blue floral gown with pearls, to greet Her Excellency Ivita Burmistre, the Ambassador of Latvia, at Buckingham Palace. During the virtual meeting, she also received Her Excellency Sara Affoue Amani, the Ambassador of Cote d'Ivoire. It comes just ten days after the funeral of her husband, Prince Philip, who died earlier this month at the age of 99.   Why airing Black wounds on screen isn't 'trauma porn' I recall hearing a collective sigh of relief from a predominantly Black audience gathered in a movie theater in the pre-Covid days of 2017 to watch Jordan Peele's Oscar-winning horror film " Get Out ." We all exhaled a sigh of relief when hero Chris Washington (played by then-unknown rising star Daniel Kaluuya) defeated his treacherous White girlfriend Rose Armitage (played by Allison Williams), who had duped him into a prison set up by her villainous middle-class suburban family. We'd been holding our breath because a police cruiser had pulled up to the scene, and we'd braced ourselves for a deadly confrontation between law enforcement and a Black man. We breathed a sigh of relief when, instead of a white cop, Chris's Black friend Rod Williams (played by comedian Lil Rel Howery) emerged from the cruiser to help. Rod, who has provided comic relief throughout the film, delivers Peele's well

Some members of the ‘Saturday Night Live’ cast are confused and annoyed to have Elon Musk host show Elon Musk hasn't yet appeared on "Saturday Night Live," but he's already being chastised by some of the show's cast members. SNL announced on Twitter on Saturday that the business magnate will host the late-night show on May 8. Other corporate heavyweights who have hosted NBC's popular late-night show include Donald Trump (before he was president) and Steve Forbes. Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, is well-known for his eclectic and frequently contentious remarks. He has been chastised for his comments about the Covid-19 pandemic. He has spoken out against national stay-at-home orders, comparing them to "de facto house arrest" in a tweet. In an interview with journalist Kara Swisher on an episode of The New York Times podcast "Sway," he downplayed the risk of the novel coronavirus and said he would not get the vaccine for it. However, Musk

2022 Grammy Preview: Is Billie Eilish Headed For Another Record Of The Year Nomination?   Billie Eilish was one of the biggest winners at the Grammys in 2021, taking home two awards, including one of the big four in a stunning upset. Many in the industry predicted Megan Thee Stallion and BeyoncĂ© would win Record of the Year for their collaboration "Savage," which won several awards...but it wasn't named until the very end of the night.   Instead, Eilish's "Everything I Wanted," a stand-alone track that was a success but not a true smash, was declared the winner, earning the teen performer her second trophy in as many years. She now appears to be on her way to a record-breaking third nomination in the category.   The Grammy Awards for 2021 may have only ended a few weeks ago, but the qualifying deadline for the next round of nominations is already more than halfway through. All songs and albums that want to be considered for a golden gramophone in 2022 must

What The La La Land Cast Is Doing Now, Including Emma Stone In a world where musicals were once abundant, with blockbusters like West Side Story, Newsies, Mary Poppins, and countless others, it seemed as if there was a serious shortage of them on the big screen. That's why we were ecstatic when Damien Chazelle released La La Land in 2016, an Oscar-winning musical about a struggling jazz musician and an actress falling in love in Hollywood and the challenges they face together. The film was a success, with critics praising the soundtrack, acting, scenery, and everything else thrown in for good measure. Many of the accolades focused on Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling's outstanding performances, as well as the rest of the incredible cast. Since it's been nearly five years after the release of La La Land , here's what the cast has been up to since then. Ryan Gosling (Sebastian Wilder) I like to refer to Ryan Gosling as Hollywood's boyfriend because of how good he is in ro
