32 FUN FAMILY ACTIVITY IDEAS TO DO TOGETHER
1. ENGAGE IN A CARD GAME
Yeah, card games are awesome! I've already listed how much we enjoy playing UNO, but there are several more. You can also play Pop! or Go Fish!
2. GO TO THE BEACH
I enjoy going to the beach with my dad. You can swim, create sandcastles, or simply relax. We leave very early in order to escape the warm, cranky sun.
3. HAVE A PICNIC
Packing the picnic basket is part of the fun, so include the kids. Gather some bread rolls, water bottles, salad, and chicken teriyaki kebabs.
4. Love GEOCACHING
This is the most enjoyable. Small gems are hidden all over the world, waiting for you to discover them. This Geocaching App is a lot of fun for me. Only carry a notebook, a small notepad, and some small trinkets to place in the Geocache when you find it.
5. VISIT THE LIBRARY
Borrow some new books from your nearest library. My daughters adore doing this!
6. GO ON A STAYCATION
There's no need to fly off to another part of the world for a holiday when you can stay right where you are. Book a low-cost hotel and discover your hometown.
7. CREATE A HERB GARDEN
All you need is a pot, some herbs (which you can get at your local supermarket), and some soil to get started. Allow the children to run wild. The best part is that you get to eat your garden later.
8. VISIT A NEW PLAYGROUND
There are so many wonderful playgrounds all over our lovely country. Check out this Playground Finder to find a new one near you.
9. Play IN A BOARD GAME
Bring out your old board games for a family game night. Try Twister, Monopoly, Pictionary, or something else you have lying around the house.
10. GET THE KIDS TO NAVIGATE
This was a fun game I used to play with the kids I babysat: I'd blindfold the kids and then drive for about 15 minutes, making sure they didn't peek. Then I'd tell the kids to try to find a way to get us home. They had a nice time with the challenge!
11. ALLOW THE KIDS TO COOK DINNER
Of course, the age of your children will decide this, however, they enjoy knowing they are contributing to dinner. Allow them to cut ingredients if they are old enough, or if you have teenagers on your hands, let them make the whole meal.
12. GO BIKE RIDING
Get on your bikes and travel around the country, finding new places as you go.
13. SHOW AND Say
This is a hit with my daughters! They like the show and tell at school, so they'll do it at home... and we get involved as well. Stand in front of your family and chat about something while flaunting it.
14. GO TO YOUR GARDEN
I know it sounds strange, but my kids enjoy weeding. We put on our gloves, turn on some music, and weed as a family.
15. DONATE TO YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD
Teach your children the importance of sharing by making them bake something or pick flowers to send to a friend. It's a perfect way to not only get to know the people who live around, but it also teaches generosity.
16. Build A CUBBY
We recently built a proper cubby in our backyard, which I adore... But before that, I'd make cubby houses out of sheets in the lounge or under the dining table. Children adore a good or poor cubby home!
17. ATTEND A SPORTING EVENT
I know some people would scoff at this because of sport. But believe me when I say that the atmosphere at a game is as enjoyable as, if not more so than, the game itself. It's perfect for kids to see how much fun competitive sports can be and to get excited about supporting a team.
18. GO TEN-PIN BOWLING!
This is a fantastic family activity. If you have a large family, you can even form mini-family teams!
19. TAKE A NATURE WALK
Explore a small nature trail and look for plants, animals, and stunning scenery.
20. GO ROLLER-SKATING
Even if you haven't worn skates in years, it's always a fun sport. Our local rink offers free lessons on Saturday mornings, so check with your local rink to see what they have to do.
21. Love FRISBEE
Pack a frisbee, go to a nearby field, and have some fun!
22. CREATE A FAMILY WORK OF ART
Purchase a canvas and some paints from a nearby low-cost store and work together to create artwork. It will be a perfect conversation starter in your home.
23. GO TO A LOCAL FARM AND PICK YOUR OWN FRUIT
We have strawberry farms and other farms nearby where you can pick your own produce. Find one near you and get together to pick some garden goodies.
24. PARTICIPATE IN THE SPRINKLER
Just like you did when you were a child!
25. EXPERIENCE A NEW FOOD OR CUISINE
Lookup a restaurant directory in your area and try something new. Enable your stomach to take you to Japan, Mexico, Malaysia, or anywhere your taste buds take you!
26. PLAY PUTT-PUTT GOLF
Make an attempt at a hole-in-one! A little friendly competition among family members is always enjoyable.
27. COMPLETE A PUZZLE TOGETHER
I'm not talking about a small puzzle here; get a BIG one that will really challenge you and work on it as a family.
28. START BAKING
Have some fun in the kitchen by baking cookies or a cake together.
29. GO CAMPING
Even if it is right in your own backyard! Try going camping with your family.
30. PARTICIPATE IN A PHOTO WALK
Have your family participate in a picture-a-day game, or take pictures while going for a walk.
It's great to join fun activities with your family and wear a family uniform like Silence Is Great Unless You Have Kids Shirt Funny Parents Tee.
